
80, of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully on July 28, 2016. Ralph was born on December 2, 1935 to Ralph Sr. and Eddie Carrel in Clinton, IN. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann Pennington Carrel. He is also survived by his children, Matthew (Paula) Carrel and Marnie Carrel Maluck; his four grandchildren, Amelia (Robert) Mijach, Cody Maluck, Isaac Carrel, and Owen Carrel; great-granddaughter, Cora Jane Mijach; sister, Rose Carrel Screen, and many cousins, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends who were always considered family.
Ralph will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, his calm and gentle nature, his loyalty to family and friends, and his ability to fix just about anything! He loved the Colts, NASCAR, and Indy Car. Ralph’s annual trips to California and Florida with family were legendary adventures involving multiple vices and a few lies. He was a terrible fisherman who loved “Shooting the Bull” and telling corny jokes. Ralph was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ralph never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a 50-year Pike Township institution who was known and loved by young and old. He was very active at his American Legion Post 497.
He proudly served two tours in the U.S. Army and enjoyed reminiscing about his time spent living in Germany and traveling and exploring Europe with his wife Ruth Ann.
He was retired from Glenroy Construction where he enjoyed his work for over 35 years as a cement mason. His work is visible on many iconic buildings in Indianapolis. He also enjoyed working as Team Manager for Chico’s Bicycle Shop. Ralph was a founding member of the Lake Sullivan BMX track which is now part of the Marian College Cycling complex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph and Pearce; and sisters, Dora and Darla.

Amemorial for Ralph will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the American Legion located at 3011 Guion Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222. The service will begin at 6:30 and will be followed by a Celebration of Life until 9 pm. Dinner and drinks will be provided.
